The gall! Community exists to connect artists to one another in a network of fortitude without ideologically limits. A member of the community may find in other members moral support, professional connection, and artistic inspiration. The community meets regularly through virtual meetings and occasionally at in-person events.
-
Yes, membership in The gall! Community must precede application for The gall! Grant.
-
Yes. Both the community and the grant are designed for those who are actively engaged in their creative work in some capacity.
-
The gall! Grant seeks specifically to benefit young artists and projects otherwise underserved and silenced by the ideologically-driven arts industry. Thus, proposed projects should be bold, countercultural, and innovative. Submit an application that shows us originality, open-mindedness, an aversion to the main, and a commitment to community. All mediums are welcome.
-
The gall! is non-political but aims to balance and counteract ideological pressure that exists in the current arts industry. We want to alleviate this tension and liberate artists to create meaningful works without the burden of approval from a narrow-minded artistic environment. Thus, participants in both the community and the grant program need not subscribe to any specific ideology and must commit explicitly to openness of thought.
-
No. Membership in the community and reception of the grant are not contingent on an artist’s location. However, the showcase for grant recipients’ artwork is held in New York City and their physical attendance is mandatory.
